PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:

This adhesive backed light-weight polyester sailcloth is used for insignias and numbers on sails and emergency sail repairs. Sailmakers use it for spreader patches to protect the leech of head sails from chafe on the spreaders.

Simply cut to shape, remove the paper backing and stick it down to clean sailcloth.

Sold by the linear yard, 54" wide.

Insignia Cloth

I had been looking for adhesive backed cloth to put over an aging boat cover (racing scull) to extend its life (lots of small rips). The insignia cloth in 54" pieces and purchased by the yard was perfect. Adhesive is all I could want and the material should hold up and extend the life of my cover by a few years. I was not looking for something as durable/strong as sail cloth but figured something to repair rips would be good. This worked better. For its intended purpose, I have no doubt that it would work wonders. Ordered on Tuesday and finished my project when it arrived on Saturday

Meant to be or not

We have an old sailboat stored at our cottage that recently had a family of mice living in the sail. Result- small mice chew holes running up the center of the sail. I did some internet research on sail replacement & repair professionally. The boat isn't worth the cost of that repair. Although the Insignia cloth was not advertised for this purpose, I cut diamond shape pieces for each side of the sail issues. The sticky surface of the cloth was much easier than using bias to hold the cloth in place. I decided to reinforce the edges with a zig zag stitch. It appears to be the perfect economical solution to our problem. I gave 4 stars not 5 because the fabric came with no instructions at all. Hopefully I applied it properly.
