Product Description:
Made by Wm Smith and Sons. This is a good quality palm perfect for occasional use. The adjustable strap means the hand sewing can be shared by ship mates!
The metal piece is called the eye and has indentations to accept the head of the needle as you push it through the cloth. The hole on the right side of the picture is for your thumb, and the eye sits on the pad of your hand (below your thumb). You will find it to be a big help to push the needle through the sailcloth and canvas.
Choose right or left hand. (If you are right handed, you would use a right hand palm.)

The buckle definitely needs to be redesigned. The leather strap being folded under causes it to dig into the back of your hand. Otherwise, this seems to be a quality piece.

Sewing palm

The buckle clasp should be riveted on with the leather folded up, not down. Being folded down creates an uncomfortable pressure point on the back of your hand.
