Sailmaker's Leather

I thought I'd try this leather to make a small pouch. I ordered the 1 foot size as all I needed was a 12'x12' piece for the design I was anticipating. However, the piece that arrived while almost 1 foot long was not 1 foot wide and a bit out of square. As a result, I changed my design for my pouch. But that problem aside, the leather is really quite nice. It has a sueded finish on both sides, is fairly thin without being too thin, and is very soft and flexible. I was able to stitch double thicknesses of the leather with a stitching awl. Now, if this came in a 1x1 foot square, it would have been perfect. I'll buy some more, but this time I will check with customer service to make sure the size I order will meet my design plans. Other than that problem, the leather is beautiful and it has made a really nice pouch.

I need some leather to protect edges of a mainsail cover .This material 4 oz/sqf seems just about right. I weighed it and it is exactly as advertised.
